During the second shoot is where I found my final picture, I had a few that I liked to choose from but I found that many of my shots didn't work. I knew how I wanted the picture to look in my head but I found it quite difficult to produce what I wanted.
I took a few pictures of the scene, to start with, just to try the different methods of lighting I had available. As I was shooting outside, I had a choice of two lights coming from the direction of the house; the main outside light which I found to be too bright and washed out the subjects. I used the light coming out from the conservatory, which I liked as it gave the picture a creepy feel but had a white glow from the window which took attention away from the subjects. Thirdly I tried these lighting methods with the flash from the camera which I preferred overall as it gave the picture kind of a candid photo look:
Outdoor Light
Conservatory Light
With Flash
Of the three I liked the pictures with the flash best as you could see the scene. However I realised there was little to no shadows in the picture, which was a feature that I wanted, and this made the pictures look flat. I also thought that the picture looked quite boring so again I decided to move the camera and set around.
In each of these places I set up a little scene involving two bags of sweets, a fake gun on the table and the Halloween banner across the fence. So I was also involved in the picture I had to put the camera on the timer and run into the photo. This proved to be less difficult than I had anticipated. I eventually decided I like the placing of the table in the corner of the garden near the stairs as it felt more interesting than viewing the entire fence. Once everything was arranged I testing the lighting again. Once again I found that the outside light ruined the picture and the conservatory light look cool and creepy. A plus was that the window wasn't in frame any longer so I could use this lighting if I wished.
